Nonprofits that raise money from the public must comply with charitable solicitation registration requirements. These are regulated at the state level, and the requirements vary by jurisdiction. 41 states have enacted charitable solicitation statutes. 10 do not require registration, but some do require disclosure statements to be included on solicitation materials. In total, 45 jurisdictions have some form of regulation related to charitable solicitation.
