About Lions
Lions Club International is the largest service club in the world. Since 1917 (that’s over 100 years!), millions of members have served in thousands of clubs across hundreds of countries. That’s a lot of numbers and a lot of impact.
The mission of the Lions is to “empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.” In short, when they join Lions Club, members have an amazing opportunity to come together and fight for the common good in their communities. Lions focus their efforts on 5 Global Causes: Diabetes, Vision, Hunger, Environment and Childhood Cancer.
Lions Club Meetings
While Lions Club volunteers are often busy volunteering or raising funds, meetings are also part of the commitment. The purpose of the Lions Club meetings is to discuss club business. But, another goal of the club meetings is to create fellowship among members.
The Lions Club meeting, like most others, should foster engagement through a welcoming environment. Tailoring it to fit the needs of your specific organization is favorable. Do you meet frequently or infrequently? Are meetings formal or informal? Will there be a meal? All of these decisions are up to you and your committees.
Now to some ground rules. The Lions Club meeting should not be a place for talking heads to come and ramble on. People’s time is scarce. Your meeting should take that into consideration by sticking to an agenda, including a start and end time.
The Lions Club website is a great resource chock full of downloads for members. In addition, we created a simple Lions Club meeting agenda so your meetings stay on track. This template is based on the traditional Lions Club meeting style. But, just as the Lions Club International emphasizes that not every chapter is the same (“Your Club, Your Way!”), we encourage you to customize your meetings to fit your chapter’s specific needs. In fact, we designed the agenda in a bulleted list below so you can simply take and apply what fits and disregard what doesn’t.
