When is Teacher Appreciation Week? When is National Teacher Day?
The countdown is on. When is Teacher Appreciation Week? It always takes place the first full week in May.
In 2024, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6 to 10, 2024 and National Teacher Day is Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
#ThankATeacher with These Ideas
Teacher Appreciation Week is a symbol that the end of the school year is close. This week is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the incredible contributions of our educators, offering an opportunity for students, parents and communities to express their appreciation for the teachers in our lives, whether they are daycare, preschool, elementary, middle school, high school or higher education.
Teachers shape our future by imparting knowledge, fostering growth and instilling a love of learning. Oftentimes, teachers work more than just the hours they are in the classroom—spending their own time and money to buy supplies, grade papers and make lesson plans. Let's come together to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week and National Teacher Day, all about these amazing humans and the role they have in society.
Ideas to Celebrate at School
One of the most common ways that PTOs and PTAs can organize a celebration of teachers is to make them feel truly special at school this week. Curate special Teacher Appreciation Week activities, food and decor all week long, and remember, parents are always willing to chip in. Be sure to ask for donations and volunteers to help. You might be a parent volunteer, PTO member, room parent, staff member or Para but you don't have to do this alone. It's also a good opportunity for local restaurants and businesses to provide in-kind donations.

Ideas for Students to Thank Teachers
Teacher Appreciation Week and National Teacher Day are excellent opportunities for students to find a creative and thoughtful way to say "thank you" to those who inspired them each school day this year. Whether it's writing a heartfelt note, creating a personalized teacher gift or gift card, or participating in a fun activity, there are many ways for students to say thanks this year.
Teacher Appreciation Week Themes
Some Parent Teacher Organizations like to come up with a theme for Teacher Week. This helps organizers plan activities, decorations and food around a central idea. Themes are a fun way to bring a little something different to the traditional pizza party (although we aren't against that!) to the table.
Superheroes
Celebrate teachers for the real-life superheroes they are with capes, masked and themed decorations highlighting their super powers.
Hollywood Stars
Roll out the red carpet for teachers this year and treat them like celebrities all week long.
School Spirit
Show off your school pride as you thank teachers with your mascot and everything in school colors.
Tropical Paradise
Transform the school into a vacation destination with fruity drinks, leis and luau-themed decorations.
Around the World
Take teachers on a global journey showcasing different cultures through decorations, cuisine and activities.
Circus
You know, school would be a circus without the ringmasters. Celebrate with a circus-themed teacher lounge all week.
Harry Potter
A favorite book of many teachers and students and a magical way to celebrate teachers with some Hogwarts wizardry.
1990's
Bring the nostalgia with colorful outfits, iconic music and activities to throw it back to a great era.
Gratitude Garden
Transform the whole school into a blooming garden of appreciation and heartfelt messages for teachers.
Under the Sea
Dive into an underwater adventure of giving thanks with ocean-themed decorations and gratitude for teachers as big as the ocean blue.
Spa
Hire a masseuse or rent a massage chair and give teachers some relaxation this year.
Wild, Wild West
Create a western-themed celebration with cowboy hats, bandanas, country style decor and barbecue.
Cinco de Mayo
The first week of May is a great time to have a Mexican-themed teacher week, complete with sombreros and tacos.
Friends
Bring the fun and laughter of the t.v. show to the classroom with "The One Where Teachers Are Showered With Love"!

Sports
Show teachers they're the true MVPs by making sporty treats, hosting friendly competitions and decorating with sports-themed decor.
