Welcome to the Two Minute Treasurer’s Tip Podcast. I am your host Cyndi Meuchel with MoneyMinder where we’re hoping to make your life as a volunteer easier.
Justin asks: What kinds of things can our HOA regulate? To figure out what kinds of things your HOA can regulate, you’re going to want to start with your CC&R’s. Those are the specific rules of your HOA and will be outlined there.
Typical CC&Rs might cover things like pets, exterior paint & siding, fences, landscaping (even so far as what flowers you can plant), structures like swing sets, basketball hoops, noise, mailboxes, home based businesses. Gosh, the list goes on and on.
You can see from that list than HOAs may regulate a wide variety of activities that might impact you. After all, the intention is to maintain a certain level of uniformity and functionality in a given neighborhood. So, be sure to look at your HOA’s governing documents to find out what yours are specifically.
