It’s that time of year again! It is time for transitioning treasurers! Being a Treasurer is a serious job and now you can pass the torch to the next person. Go ahead and pat yourself on the back for a job well done and check out these tips on how to ensure a smooth transition that will help you step down feeling accomplished and the incoming Treasurer feeling confident.
Do Your Homework:
New Treasurers should request all of the following from the outgoing Treasurer:
- A list of all tasks the officer must do.
- The procedures for performing the tasks (even if just in note form).
- Tips and techniques for making the job easier (“If I knew then what I know now”).
- Commitments that the outgoing officer made and that the incoming officer is expected to keep.
- Documentation (procedures, keys, old files, etc.)
Grab A Coffee:
Need an excuse to visit your favorite barista? Now that you have your list of requested items, it’s time to plan a meeting. A meeting at a coffee shop or another meeting spot would be helpful for both the outgoing and incoming Treasurer. It gives you the opportunity to pass along all information and files, keys and other items that are needed.
Timing:
Try and plan a month of transition time for both Treasurers to work together. Then, plan a meeting with your group. Make sure and take notes during the transition process and share your thoughts with the group about how it went and what could be improved upon.
