Welcome to the Two-Minute Treasurer’s Tip Podcast. I am your host, Cyndi Meuchel, co-owner of MoneyMinder, where we’re hoping to make your life as a volunteer easier.
Today I’m answering the following question: How do I present a Treasurer’s Report at my board meeting. Michelle writes, “I’m a new treasurer and I’m very nervous about presenting my report at my next board meeting. What is it I’m supposed to share?”.
Well, Michelle, to make your presentation super easy, I would recommend printing out a treasurer’s report and taking it with you to the meeting. While you’re at it print out extra copies to give to your board members. That way they can follow along. Before your board meeting though make sure that all your books are up to date and that your accounts are reconciled.
So that means all your transactions need to be entered, yeah, and that will make your report super complete. Then when you’re at your board meeting, you’re just going to give a short oral report. You’re going to state your opening balance for the period of time you’re reporting on.
You’ll tell them the total income, your total expenses, and the ending balance for the month. It’s also a good idea probably to mention any planned upcoming expenses that you’re aware of. It’s pretty short and sweet.
So once you’re done with that, you can ask if anyone has questions and I know a lot of treasures I talk to get nervous about not being able to answer a question on the fly, but don’t worry. If that happens my suggestion to you if you don’t know the answer off the top of your head is to just be honest and tell them that you’re going to need to research their question and that you’ll
get back to them. Just make sure you follow through with an answer
That’s it for today. Thanks for listening! If you have a question you’d like answered, email me at [email protected] and I’ll be happy to respond. My name is Cyndi Meuchel and this is your Two-Minute Treasurer’s Tip for the day.
