Your child is starting a new school year in a few short weeks. It’s an important moment for him or her, but have you ever stopped to think about the implications for your child’s teacher? He or she has had the whole summer off, and will now have another year of spending each and every day with your child. If you are so compelled, you could start the school year off right with a back to school gift for your child’s teacher. Or, perhaps your sibling, cousin, son, daughter, or good friend is a teacher and you’d like to do something nice for them.
Here are a few ideas for back to school gifts for teachers, “pinspired” from Pinterest.
Apple
Let’s not overlook the good old fashioned apple for your teacher. Not only will this gift on the first day make your teacher smile at the old tradition, it’s a healthy alternative to some of the usual candy-ridden teacher gifts.
According to eHow, this tradition stems back a ways. Children “gave teachers apples because they came from poor farming families that were unable to pay for school. Children also gave teachers apples because teachers didn’t make very much money and families wanted to provide them with extra food.”
Water Bottle
Help your teacher stay hydrated (and have fewer dishes to keep up on) with a new water bottle. One cute idea we found is to have your son or daughter draw a picture for the new teacher. Roll it up inside the water bottle and place a tag on it that says “thank you for quenching my thirst for knowledge”.

Soda
We found a few really cute spins on sending a little “pick me up” your teacher’s way. Not everyone drinks soda, but when it’s a special treat, it can really help a person get through a tough day. Attach one of these messages to a soda for an easy teacher treat:
- “Soda” lighted you’re my teacher
- POP Quiz: Who’s the luckiest student around? I am! So happy to have you as my teacher this year.
- Rooting for a great school year (root beer)
- Here’s to a “fanta”stic year (Fanta)
- This school year’s looking UP (7-UP)
- I Dew look forward to learning with you (Mountain Dew)

Custom Wrapped Candy Bars
Get some cute paper and either write or print a message on it, then cover a candy bar and you have a simple treat for your teacher. You can find templates for such a thing online, but just get the dimensions of the candy bar you’d like to give and printing should be a cinch. You could also come up with a variety of printables and messages to go with different bars.

Oreo Apple Pops
It might not have the same effect as “an apple a day”, but try this fun spin on the traditional apple for your teacher on the first day of school this year. All you’ll need is oreos, green airheads, red candy melts, mini pretzel sticks, and either toothpicks or a cake pop stick.
